Merry Christmas 2012

Hello and I am now booking for 2013, so be sure to give me a call or email to book your date!

I hope you all had a Merry Christmas! Here are just a few pictures from Christmas morning.

I am pretty sure Grant will be a 49er fan just like his aunt. :) He loved his shirt! Hehe.

All 3 of my "Gs." Gavin, Grace, and Grant!

Below: (L) Nikki and Gavin opening gifts and (R) Grace getting ready!

My sisters-in-law and me! We joke that we are the '3 Beauties' that Oliver Tractors used to advertise with mid-1900s since they were a blonde, brunette, and redhead... just like us!

My Summer

I've had a few people ask me why I haven't updated the blog in a while. Well, it takes me about 10 minutes to make a blog post and when I think of all of the sessions I do and all of the posts, I felt like that was a lot of time that I could put into editing and catching up on orders. I did my best to keep Facebook updated with pictures from recent sessions, but sometimes that was even hard! So sadly, the blog was neglected over the summer, but I felt it was worth it in order to keep turn around times as fast as possible.

School started today and I will be back in the swing of things soon. I am currently booked for September and October, but I do have a waiting list in case of cancellations. Feel free to contact me if you are in need of a session this fall! Email is the best way to reach me since I also have school.

Since it has been a while since I have updated the blog, here is a post full of pictures from just a few sessions that kept me busy over the summer!

Oliver's Announcement

Alrighty folks, if you are a fan on Facebook, you saw that Oliver had a very special announcement to tell you guys. (If you are not a fan, you need to go over and 'Like' the page!)

Okay, well... here goes. Oliver would like to share the BIG news. The news is that I am now teaching in Rosholt! I definitely was not expecting to move back, but after applying all over the area this opportunity sprung up. I applied and was hired! That means no more half Fargo(or somewhere else)/half Rosholt living. I was not sure where I would end up teaching, which also meant I was unsure where the studio would end up. I am extremely happy that it will stay put right where it is!

Even though the studio is staying, there are some changes that will happen. Since I will be teaching full time as well as advising activities and running the studio, I decided it was time to narrow down my photography. In the past years, I have missed out on family time and honestly... I feel like I am too busy and missing out on important parts of life. While I do love every moment of it, I feel this is what I need to do for myself and for the ones I love especially since I am back home. I will now only be offering maternity and newborn, family and children, and Senior photography. Which means I will no longer be offering extended family and wedding services. If you have already booked a wedding or extended family session, don’t worry! I will be photographing anything currently contracted and booked. I know that this decision will disappoint some, but I hope that you understand.

Looking for a home for me and my owner. (Don't worry she is house trained.)

Oliver and I are still looking for a place to rent in town. Just graduating from college means I have student loans, which also means I don't have the finances to buy anything at the moment. I am not entirely worried as I know something will pop up that is just right for us. If you see Oliver sitting on the street later this Fall with this sign, then maybe I will be worried. ;) Since he turned 5 years old the end of June, I thought it was a good time for some silly photos. (And because blog posts are boring without pictures.)

I want to thank you all for your support! I feel like I am right where I am suppose to be and I am excited for what lies ahead!

Happy Summer!

Since today is the first day of Summer, I found it appropriate to share some photos from the weekend! All my G's were at the farm (my niece and nephew's names all start with G) and we had a blast! We played in the sprinkler, went to visit Great Grandpa and Grandma, and took a nap. The littlest of the Gs didn't argue with napping since that's pretty much all he does right now. :) Even though it wasn't Summer yet, it should felt like it!

My boys!

The Bodyshop Hair & Make-Up Tips

I had the amazing opportunity to work with The Bodyshop in Wahpeton, ND last month. The first thing I need you to do is go over to their Facebook page and 'Like' them and then come back here and continue reading...

Okay, hi again. Before every session I discuss outfits as well as hair and makeup with my clients. I tell my Senior girls to bring their make-up bags to their sessions and over on the website, there's a list of tips. However, as I am not really an expert in the department of hair and makeup, I felt the need to ask the professionals for help! The ladies at The Bodyshop were absolutely amazing to work with and they did a fantastic job at making a list of tips as well as doing hair and makeup on the models, Danielle and Lauren, that you see in the photos. I will stop talking now and let them take over the blog!

The Bodyshop Hair & Make-Up Tips
for photo shoots or special occasions

1. Do not cut your hair the week of your event.
2. Color your hair at least a week in advance.

A simple up-do. Loosely curl hair and braid to the side.
Flip the end of the braid through the top and secure with bobby pins.

3. Do not drastically change your cut or color before your event.
4. Make-up should always be darker for pictures - especially in the eye area.

Adding a shadow liner to deepen and darken the eyes.

5. Do not try a new style the day of the shoot. Practice first!
6. Avoid make-up with glitter, shimmer, or metallic. It looks very shiny in pictures (unless that's the look you're going for.)
7. Concentrate on the front of your hair unless you are going to see the back. The front is more important.

Easy transition during a set. Pull your loose curls into a side pony.
Gather hair to a side and secure with pony tail holder.

8. Don't overdo the tanning bed!
9. Avoid getting your eyebrows/lip waxed the week of your session.
10. Remember to bring your hair product and make-up with you to your session for touch ups.

Always remember your hair spray!

11. Make-up should be relatively basic. Focus on the eyes and a neutral lip shade is best. Remember you want to look like you! Your pictures will be with you for a lifetime!

Have subtle make-up, but emphasis on the eyes and
neutral lips will make you look fresh and young!

12. Eyeliner and mascara are a MUST!
13. You can also choose to have your hair professionally done for your event.

Hair is loosely curled and a waterfall braid is added in this look. The braid starts at one side of
your head and lays horizontally.

14. Also be careful of your skin care regiment at least for a couple of weeks before. Do not try any new face creams or treatments!
15. Avoid ultra high shine lip gloss as it tends to reflect in pictures.
16. And enjoy your day! HAVE FUN! Let your personality shine through!

Thank you once again to Danielle and Lauren for agreeing to hang out with us for the day! And to Stephanie, Amy, Tiffany, and the other girls at The Bodyshop for being so awesome!

Mamarazzi Photography Class

Introducing the Mamarazzi Photography Class from Renae Alane Photography.

This class will help get you off the 'green box' and take better pictures of your family using any camera. We will start with camera basics. I suggest having a DSLR and a 50mm lens, but any camera will do. We will then talk about the creative aspect of photography and break for a snack somewhere in between. After that, we will do a live shoot to practice what we've learned!

This class it not to make you a professional, but instead I hope you will walk away with a better understanding of what makes a good picture and how to take pictures of your family. Your photos will have a meaning and not be just snapshots.

Preregistration is required. The cost of the three hour class is $40 and is non-refundable.  This includes the class, lunch, and notes. Door prizes will also be drawn that day! To allow me to help everyone, the class is limited to a size of 10. To register for the class, you  must grab an Offer from the RAP Facebook page. This will send you an email with directions explaining how to register for the class.

Registration will begin at 7pm this evening (May 21st). Don't wait, because I have a feeling the spots will go fast! I am so excited for this and look forward to helping you all expand your photography knowledge!

Mr. R is 1 year old!

Last time I saw little R, he was just a few weeks old. I was pretty excited when his mom contacted me to do his 1 year session! Here are just a few from the afternoon.

In Memory of Vic

I have had this blog post ready to go for a few days now, besides what I wanted to say. I don't really think you can put into words the love and support that this group has given the Braun family during the past few years.
A few months ago, heaven gained another angel and I think the entire community felt the impact of the loss of such a great guy. Even months later, the support for Vic is still very much present. When Courtney asked if I would take pictures of the group, I felt extremely honored.
Unfortunately it rained that morning, but I was ready to go with my rain boots and umbrella and we found a place large enough for everyone to fit. Everyone was still in great spirits and there is no doubt in my mind Vic was there with us that day!

There will also be a Mother's Day dinner this Sunday, May 13 from 10:30am-1:00pm at the Rosholt Community Center. The menu includes meatballs, gravy, mashed potatoes, and more. Proceeds raised in memory of Vic at this fundraiser will benefit the Roberts County American Cancer Society. Hope to see you there!

Elliot is 1!

I have had the privilege of photographing Elliot every few months since he was born! It seems like not too long ago we did some baseball themed newborn shots! It has been so much fun watching him grow.

Wildlife

I am by no means a wildlife photographer, but there has been something I've been "hunting" the past week!

These little guys have a den just north of Rosholt. I haven't had the chance to capture them until tonight! I spent the afternoon huddled in the ditch until my fingers froze and I decided that was enough for the day. A big thanks to Courtney for letting me know they were back out this evening!

And this is a photo I took this afternoon when the fox pups weren't out and about!
